History

The firm was established on 1 September 1976 by Mischa Wladimiroff and Gerard Spong. This establishment was done under the auspices of the Foundation Criminal law Practice which itself was set up by the Dutch Bar in order to enhance the quality of criminal law assistance. The aim was to provide high quality and specialised assistance in criminal cases and by doing that form a hallmark for the criminal bar. The firm, which gradually expanded, excelled in doing that. Gerard Spong inter alia became known a Supreme Court specialist. He eventually left the firm in 2000 to continue his practice in Amsterdam. Given his involvement in landmark cases Mischa Wladimiroff was installed in 1986 a professor of economic criminal law (focusing on white collar crime). From the mid-90s Wladimiroff, whose family had fled from Russian Communist terror during the Russian Revolution, became involved, together with other lawyers from the firm, in the development of international criminal law. International criminal law was then shaped again for the first time since the second World War. Meanwhile the practice in white collar cases also flourished, in part due to an uprise in enforcement. The firm was strengthened in that field by more partners and more specialisms. From 2005 the special field of sanction law developed in which all the sanctioning and enforcement of government authorities and agencies comes together. The firm has a unique position in assisting its clients in all the fields that combine into sanction law.
